In every corner of the country, two-wheelers are a common sight. They are a convenient and affordable way to get around. With an increase in the number of two-wheelers on the road, it is important that riders follow traffic rules to maintain safety.

Two-wheelers are more vulnerable than four-wheelers and are thus more likely to be involved in accidents. There are some differences between the traffic rules for four and two-wheelers, and if you are the owner or plan to be an owner of a two-wheeler soon, it is wise to be aware of them.

Indian Traffic Rules for Two-Wheelers

Here are some traffic rules for two-wheelers that will help keep you safe on Indian roads.

• Helmets are compulsory for both two-wheeler drivers and those riding pillions. Helmets protect the head during accidents and can spell the difference between life and death much more often than not.

• It is not allowed to drive a two-wheeler in chappals or slip-on sandals and flip-flops. A bike driver needs to drive in closed footwear.

• Another traffic rule is the two-person rule on two-wheelers. One is the driver, and another is the pillion rider. More than one pillion rider is not allowed on Indian roads.

• It is not allowed to honk loudly and persistently, and it is mandatory to keep a check on the exhaust.

• When taking out your two-wheeler, it is imperative to keep the necessary documents, the driving license, etc., with the bike at all times. If nothing else, breaking this law certainly leads to an INR 1000 fine.

• Two-wheeler drivers need to have an HSRP (High-Security Number Plates).

• While two-wheelers are typically allowed to share the road with cars, there are some places where they are not permitted.

Safety rules to save lives

Besides following the traffic rules, breaking which can be fined, it is wise to remember these safety points for drivers of two-wheelers:

• Be extra cautious when driving in bad weather conditions. Slow down and be aware of potential hazards on the road.

• Obey all traffic laws & traffic signs.

• Follow the posted speed limits and yield signs, and ride at a safe speed. Speeding is one of the top causes of accidents for two-wheelers.

• Be aware of your surroundings at all times and watch for other vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles.

• Use proper turn signals and caution when changing lanes, passing other vehicles, and turning or stopping.

• Ride in a single file when with others.

• Be visible to other drivers. Wear bright clothing, and use headlights at night and during inclement weather conditions.

• Never drive when drunk (under the influence of alcohol) or on medication that might cause dizziness and lack of concentration.

Conclusion

You can keep yourself & your loved ones safe on the road by following these rules & tips. Following traffic rules for two-wheelers are important, and so is auto insurance for bikes. It is also crucial to remember that these rules are subject to change, so it is advisable to stay up to date with the latest information related to traffic rules and insurance of two-wheelers
