In India, whether you drive a car or ride a motorbike, you have to navigate through pot-holed riddled roads every single day. No matter how well you drive or ride, there’s no denying the fact that you could meet with an accident at any point on your everyday journey. With this in mind, let’s take a look at a few bikes safety tips that every two-wheeler owner should follow to make sure that their rides are safer:

1. Always Wear a Helmet while Riding your Two Wheeler

Investing in a good helmet is an absolute necessity. Ideally, it’s a good idea to find a sturdy helmet that also covers and protects your jaw. The plastic visor will prevent dust, dirt and rainwater from irritating your eyes, but you will need to clean it regularly to ensure your sight isn’t compromised. You should also make sure that the helmet is snug on your head and is secured firmly under your chin.

2. Ensure you are visible while Riding 2 Wheeler

It doesn’t matter if you ride a small scooter or a large sports bike. If you’re on a two wheeler, you’re still on one of the smallest vehicles on the road. You need to make sure that other commuters are aware of your presence on the road. You can do this by putting reflective tapes on your helmet. You also need to check that your headlights and brake lights are working – they’re life savers on dark nights.

3. Maintain a Safe Distance

This rule may apply to everybody on the road, but bikers especially need to be aware of how close they are to the vehicles around them. You should never stop right behind a vehicle. If a car stops right behind, move a little ahead, so that you have some room to navigate with ease. Also, avoid riding alongside cars and other bikes. If a vehicle is overtaking you, slow down to give them enough space to move swiftly and safely.

4. Ensure that have an Insurance Policy

Technically, it’s mandatory for all vehicle owners to have at least third-party liability under the Motor Vehicles Act. Unfortunately, only third-party cover isn’t enough. To ensure your rides are completely protected, you should invest in a comprehensive two wheeler insurance policy, which will cover damages caused by natural and man-made calamities, while also providing personal accident cover.
