Mumbai RTO Traffic Challan and No Parking Fine in Mumbai

The financial capital and city of dreams Mumbai is one of the busiest cities in India. People from all over the country come here to fulfil their dreams. More people mean more vehicles, and more vehicles mean more traffic. That is why the city needs to follow strict traffic rules. Any violation of the traffic rules is a legal crime and can lead to hefty traffic fines as well as imprisonment in Mumbai. Today, these fines are levied in the form of an e-challan. You can pay it digitally through UPI, debit cards, credit cards, online wallets, net banking, etc.

Listed below are a few fundamental traffic rules that need to be followed strictly in Mumbai just like all over India:

1. Never drink and drive/ ride

2. Avoid using your phone while driving or riding

3. Always obey the speed limit

4. Strictly adhere to the rules of one-way streets, no parking areas, traffic signals, and so forth

5. Wear your helmet always if riding, and your seatbelt if driving

6. Keep your driving license, vehicle insurance, and PUC certificate handy while driving or riding.

Penalty for violation of traffic rules

Below are the listed traffic fines applied in Mumbai as per the RTO:

If caught driving with no license

You will be penalised from INR 1,000 to INR 5,000 and/ or community service

Over Speeding

If found speeding or racing with another vehicle, a penalty charge of INR 1,000 - INR 2,000 is to be paid for light vehicles. For medium-load vehicles, it can increase to INR 2,000 - INR 4,000

Driving under alcohol or drug intoxication

will be penalised for INR 10,000 and/ or 6 months imprisonment. For 2nd repetitive behaviour, you will be sent to prison for 2 years and/or charged INR 15,000

Driving/riding with no or invalid motor insurance

3 months' jail and/or INR 2,000 in a penalty if you repeat the offence, the penalty charge goes up to INR 4,000

If caught driving with no seat belt

A penalty of INR 1,000 is charged

Driving/riding while on the phone

A challan of INR 5,000 will be issued

Riding without a helmet

Will result in a penalty of INR 1,000 or disqualifying your driving license for 3 months.
