3 Ways to Check Expiry Date of Your Bike Insurance Policy
Read about how to check Bike Insurance Validity Online
In India, buying a bike is a dream for many. From college students, to office goers, many prefer buying a bike than cars as it allows them to easily navigate through the traffic. Plus, bikes are more fuel-efficient than cars. But before you feel the excitement of riding on your dream bike, you must remember to purchase a bike insurance policy.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, all bike owners must compulsorily have a valid third-party liability bike insurance policy at all times when they are on the road. Driving without a valid insurance is a punishable offence, and you may incur a heavy fine. Apart from complying with the law, a bike insurance coverage is necessary to get financial security against unfortunate events like an accident.
Buying bike insurance alone is not enough, you must also renew it every year. However, to renew the policy, you must remember the expiry date. Renewing the policy is just as important as buying a policy. If you are not sure how to check your bike insurance policy’s expiry date, here are a few useful ways.
Check the bike insurance expiry date through VAHAN
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways maintains a record of all the insurance policies on the VAHAN website. You can check the expiry date of your policy on this website by following the below steps:
• Visit the VAHAN e-service website (www.vahan.nic.in)
• Click on the know your details tab on the menu
• A new page will appear on the screen. Enter your vehicle number and the verification code
• And click on the search vehicle button
You can see your bike insurance policy details on the screen, and you can check the expiry date under the insurance “valid up to” column.
Check on the Insurance Information Bureau
The Insurance Information Bureau or IIB maintains the records of all insurance policies sold in India by different insurance companies. You can find your bike insurance policy details and the expiry date on IIB website by following the below steps:
Visit the IIF website (www.iib.gov.in)
On the website’s home page, you would find a quick links section, click on the ‘V Seva’ section and you will see a form on the screen
Enter the necessary details, fill the captcha code and click on the submit button
A new page will appear on the screen containing your policy details and you can easily see the expiry date.
Note: The IIB contains details of the policies purchased after April 1 2020. If you have purchased bike insurance before that, the details may not be recorded on the website.
Check On The Insurance Company’s Website
When you buy bike insurance from any insurance, they will maintain the records. You can log into your insurance company’s official website, enter the policy details, and download the policy document that mentions the policy’s expiry date.
The steps for checking the policy’s details may vary from one insurer to another, however, most insurers may require you to enter basic details like policy number, vehicle registration number, etc.
Typically, the policy document contains all the details, including its validity and the renewal date. However, you need not carry the document always. Instead, you can use the above tips to check the renewal date online instantly.
Final word
If you have purchased your bike insurance from Kotak General Insurance, you can log into the insurance portal and check the policy details at any time you want. Make sure that you renew your policy on time so that you have insurance protection at all times.
